i swim like a rock

Posted by kyden on Sunday Jul 11, 2010 Under Uncategorized

i don’t care what mommy says, i am an excellent swimmer.  i’ve only had a few lessons so far, but i already know how to jump into the water and make “big arms” and “kick kicks”.   the weird thing is that i sink like a rock when i’m swimming.  i don’t think that’s supposed to happen.  you’d think that my neck rolls would keep me afloat, right?  but i love swimming and i look good doing it, and that’s what counts :)   daddy wanted to make a movie of me swimming during my lesson today, but since i’m already an expert, i didn’t need to practice much.  instead, i worked on safety skills like holding myself up on the wall (which i wasn’t able to do a month ago!) and “walking” by sliding my hands along the edge of the wall.

oh, and 2 new kids joined my class today!  and you know what’s weird?  in all our other “baby & me” classes (like at gymboree and the little gym) babies bring their mommies.  why does everyone bring their daddies to swim school?  i didn’t get that memo.

NECK ROLLS! hahahahahaha! I think you look perfect, Kyden, not at all like you’re wearing little innertubes around your neck. I’m gonna have to watch this video again when I get home and can actually have the sound on, altho I’m sure the certified PADI dive instructor on the witness stand right now would be impressed by your video.

You may swim like a rock, but at least you swim. I just sort of bob around on my back. I can’t believe they turned you into a torpedo too! Do they do that to all of the kids? I’m still not quite comfortable when they do that to me. At my swim school, it’s the daddy’s who are in the pool too. Wonder why?

And how do I get my picture to show up like Auntie Cindy’s?

@auntie cindy: my neck rolls actually do look like innertubes around my neck. with my built-in flotation device i could easily pass the 10-minute treading test for my PADI cert! although… i’m not sure i ever want to go scuba diving because i’m terrified of sharks. i’m not sure why… but i have recurring nightmares of a giant shark biting my head off…
@logan: wall-walking makes for a boring movie, huh? we usually do a lot more swimming, and yes, everybody gets to be a torpedo. don’t worry, you’ll get the hang of it. and if you want your speedo photo posted with your comments, you can register an account with gravatar.com. unless auntie cindy has another trick that she can share with all of us? :)

maybe word got out that your mommy was helping you in the pool. i think your daddy should switch places with your mommy.

@auntie viki: i do look pretty fabulous huh? ;) i can’t wait to go swimming with you and isaac again. i miss you guys so much! give isaac a fist-bump for me :)
@uncle hank: hmmm… interesting theory. daddy doesn’t like the way you think.

No special trick — my email account is registered with that photo at gravatar.com.

I think typically athletic activities are daddy-territory. Tell a new mommy that this athletic activity involves her being in a swimsuit in public, and it’s DEFINITELY forfeited to daddy territory.
