rice, rice, baby

i’ve heard that there are ways for babies to tell their parents that they are ready for solids:

  • at least 4 months old: check!
  • doubled birth weight (or at least 15 lbs):  check!  i think i’m at ~17 lbs.
  • head control:  check!  i can do tummy time all day long.
  • sitting well when supported:  check!  sure, i can sit, but i’d much rather stand.
  • chewing motions:  check!  this is same as smacking my lips, right?
  • growing appetite:  check!  i am always hungry.
  • curiosity about grown-up food:  check!  i am constantly lunging and grabbing at mommy’s froyo and daddy’s steak.

i’ve been trying to tell mommy and daddy for almost two months now that I WANT REAL FOOD!  i got really excited last night when i got to sit down with a bowl and spoon — i thought i was finally going to get a real meal.  but it turned out to be rice cereal mush :(

it seems that koda liked it, though.

Looks like you really liked your taste of real food Ky! Did Koda eat what you didn’t finish? :)

auntie viki, i wouldn’t call rice cereal mush “real food”! but i did have fun eating with a spoon like a big boy. mommy even let me hold the spoon and try to feed myself. that didn’t work out so well. anything that didn’t make it into my mouth landed on the tray or on my bib, so no leftovers for koda. he did lick some off my hand, though!

My court reporter is a new fan of yours, Kyden! She was already a fan of Koda’s from your mommy and daddy’s old blog, and today she commented how gentle Koda is with you that you’re comfortable putting your hand in his face and he licks your fingers so affectionately. It’s clear you’re both in a very loving household. Can I move in?

looks like you enjoyed the food; pretty soon youll be eating beef stroganoff.

@auntie cindy: it’s true, koda does love me. however, what you saw in the video was not affection, it was koda wanting to eat people food. but you can still move in if you want to. we have an extra room for you, but you’ll have to share my bathroom :P
@gung-gung: eh, the rice cereal was ok. beef stroganoff sounds delicious — can you tell mommy and daddy to make some for me? they keep talking about making boring food for me, like mushed bananas and strained carrots.
